Event: Screening of Wade in the Water

Monday, December 17, 6:30pm

Wade in the Water + Q & A with first time filmmakers Elizabeth Wood and Gabriel Nussbaum

GOOD December will be screening Wade in the Water on Monday, December 17, at 6:30pm.

Through an impressionistic mix of home footage and uncensored interviews, the children of New Orleans’ struggling Central City neighborhood have created a riveting documentary.

No one set out to make a film: two young artists had come to New Orleans to help students work through the chaos of Katrina’s aftermath. Their documentary film class invited students to take video cameras home, and tell their stories on their own terms. The results quickly transcended the classroom.

Wade in the Water offers a poetic and disturbing portrait of post-flood life in New Orleans through the eyes of its children.

Sunday, December 16, 5:00pm

A Son's Sacrifice + Q & A with Director Yoni Brook and Producer Musa Syeed

GOOD December will be screening A Son's Sacrifice on Sunday, December 16, at 5pm. This film won the "Best Documentary Short" award at this year's Tribeca Film Festival and is an official selection at numerous other prestigious festivals.

The short follows the journey of Imran, a young American Muslim who struggles to take over his father's halal slaughterhouse in New York City. A first-generation American, Imran must confront his mixed heritage and gain acceptance from his father's immigrant community at the traditional storefront slaughterhouse. On the holiest day of the year, Imran must lead a sacrifice that will define him as a Muslim, as an American, and as a son.
